In the Carpathian region, a father shot his son over a land dispute
In the village of Kosmach in the Kosiv district, a 67-year-old man shot his 39-year-old son with a shotgun during a dispute. The victim was hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
According to the investigation, an argument broke out between the men over a plot of land. After the shooting, the father tried to hide the weapon, but law enforcement officers found it with the help of police dogs. The man was detained and charged with attempted murder.
There had been a long-standing dispute between the father and son over the boundaries of the land plot.
Upon seeing his son mowing the grass on the disputed land, the father grabbed a shotgun and went to confront him. The 67-year-old retiree tried to chase his son off the property. He accused his son of having allegedly taken over part of his plot without permission.
“In a fit of rage, the older man fired a shot into the ground. To stop his father, the son ran up to him, knocked him to the ground, and then ran away. However, when he had walked a few dozen meters away, the suspect fired at him with a shotgun,” law enforcement officials said.
The victim sustained multiple wounds to his arms, chest, and abdomen, including fractures to his wrists, and is currently in serious condition at the Kosiv Central District Hospital.
A concealed smoothbore shotgun, three shell casings, and two 16-gauge cartridges were seized from the attacker. The pensioner is charged with attempted murder (Part 2 of Article 15 and Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The penalty for this offense ranges from 7 to 15 years of imprisonment.
