A Kyiv resident was sentenced to 15 years in prison for arson committed on someone else's orders
A 24-year-old Kyiv resident was sentenced to 15 years in prison for sabotage and the intentional arson of a military vehicle. The man was looking for a side job on Telegram and agreed to carry out the task for money.
In July 2025, for 8,300 hryvnias, he set fire to a Ukrzaliznytsia relay cabinet on the track between stations in the Holosiivskyi district. The Kyiv resident filmed his actions and sent the video to his handler, after which he received the promised reward.
Later, he was given a new task: to set fire to a military vehicle or a car bearing Ukrainian Armed Forces insignia for $2,000. The defendant chose a camouflaged Mitsubishi Pajero that the owner used to transport humanitarian aid as a volunteer.
After setting the car on fire, the man returned to film a video report, but rescue workers and police were already on the scene. The car was not completely burned but was partially damaged. Afterward, the defendant traveled to Odesa with his girlfriend, where he was detained.
In court, the man stated that he simply wanted to make money and did not consider himself a saboteur.
Based on the aggregate of the charges, the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
