Due to safety concerns, a well-known Turkish retailer has closed its only store in Sumy

Turkish clothing retailer LC Waikiki has temporarily suspended operations at its only store in Sumy. The decision was made out of concern for the safety of employees and customers due to the difficult situation in the frontline region.

LC Waikiki, one of Turkey’s largest fashion retailers, which has been operating in Ukraine since 2013, was forced to temporarily close its only store in Sumy. The store is located in the “Kyiv” shopping mall and opened back in 2020.

The Key Issue: Safety

The LC Waikiki retail space, located in the “Kyiv” shopping and entertainment center in Sumy, has suspended operations. The company’s statement emphasizes that service will resume only after the security situation in the region stabilizes. Meanwhile, the shopping and entertainment center itself continues to operate as usual.

For customers who managed to make purchases before the closure, full service is maintained: returns or warranty issues can be handled at any other open LC Waikiki store in Ukraine.

Business continues to operate despite the war

Such measures are part of the international retail sector’s systematic approach to risk management during wartime. Previously, other major players announced similar safety-related temporary closures, including METRO in Zaporizhzhia and the home goods chain JYSK (the latter resumed operations on August 8).

LC Waikiki in Ukraine and Worldwide

LC Waikiki is a Turkish international retailer of clothing and goods for the whole family. The brand has been operating in Ukraine since 2013 through Tema Moda Ukraine LLC and has about 50 stores.

LC Waikiki’s main product range includes:

  • women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing;

  • baby clothing;

  • shoes and accessories;

  • underwear and sleepwear;

  • home textiles;

  • seasonal items and everyday products.

The company targets a broad family audience and the mass market price segment.

Despite the closure of individual stores in Mariupol, Kherson, Odesa, and Kharkiv after 2022, the chain continues to expand in safer regions—opening new locations in Mukachevo and Chernivtsi at the end of 2025.

The temporary closure of the store in Sumy is an isolated incident specifically related to the security situation in this frontline city, and does not indicate a general scaling back of the brand’s presence in Ukraine.

This was reported with reference to a post by the retailer on Facebook.
