In Kyiv, a man set a soldier's car on fire; charges have been filed
A 31-year-old man suspected of intentionally setting fire to a vehicle associated with the Armed Forces of Ukraine was detained in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv. He was allegedly promised $1,000 to carry out the job.
According to the investigation, in late August 2026, the man was offered money to set fire to a military servicemember’s vehicle or another vehicle belonging to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Wishing to receive the reward, the suspect selected the vehicle to be set on fire in advance. He prepared a special mixture and then threw it onto the hood of a Volkswagen Transporter.
After making sure the vehicle had caught fire, the man left the scene.
As a result of the fire, the flames damaged two other vehicles parked nearby—a Mazda and a BMW.
The man was detained. Under the procedural supervision of the Darnytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office, he was notified of his status as a suspect in the intentional destruction of property by arson—under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The court ordered that the suspect be held in pretrial detention without the right to bail.
If found guilty, the man faces up to 10 years in prison.

Earlier, a court sentenced a 23-year-old resident of the Odesa region to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property for committing a terrorist act and setting fire to a vehicle belonging to the Ukrainian military. Prosecutors from the Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office proved in court the guilt of the man, who agreed to carry out tasks for Russian special services in exchange for monetary compensation.
In the Kharkiv region, a traitor was sentenced to 15 years in prison for arson and coordinating Russian strikes.
