In Kyiv, psychiatrists were arrested for demanding $25,000 in exchange for disability certificates

In Kyiv, the head of a psychiatric ward and a psychiatrist are suspected of extorting $25,000 from a patient in exchange for treatment and assistance in obtaining disability benefits.

This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the investigation, the head of the department was approached on behalf of a man with a mental illness who had medical grounds for being granted disability status.

However, the doctor stated that for this, the patient would have to undergo inpatient treatment lasting 150 days, for which they allegedly demanded $25,000, explaining this by citing “difficult times.”

Both doctors were detained and notified of the charges against them.

The court imposed a preventive measure on the suspects in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 3 million hryvnias.

Earlier, the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office filed an indictment with the court against the director of the Kyiv Municipal Academic Chamber Choir on charges of official negligence.

Earlier in Kyiv, two men were exposed for defrauding an American volunteer from the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine out of over 3.2 million hryvnias by promising to create “laser weapons” to destroy drones and missiles.

As a reminder, a member of parliament warned Ukrainians about scammers who are offering payments of 6,500 hryvnias.
