In Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained a 41-year-old man who, while threatening a café employee on Kyrylivska Street with a combat grenade, attacked her. The suspect has already been charged with robbery, and the maximum penalty under the applicable statute is up to 15 years in prison.
According to police, officers received a report that an unknown man had burst into the café, threatened a woman with a grenade, ripped a gold earring from her ear, and fled, leaving the grenade inside the premises.
“The police received a report that inside a café on Kyrylivska Street, an unknown individual, threatening with a grenade, ripped an earring from a woman’s ear and fled, leaving the explosive device behind. Police bomb disposal experts removed a live grenade with a fuse from the premises,” law enforcement officials reported.
The investigation established that the attacker entered the establishment wearing a medical mask. He approached a 45-year-old female café employee, pulled out a live grenade, and began demanding that she hand over a gold chain. After the woman refused to comply with his demands, the man sprayed pepper spray in her face, forcibly ripped the gold earring from her ear, and fled, leaving the grenade at the scene.
Law enforcement officers quickly located and detained the suspect. He turned out to be a 41-year-old serviceman who is currently classified as having “deserted his unit.”
Investigators have now informed the man that he is suspected of committing a robbery. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison.
This was reported by the Kyiv Police.
