In Kyiv, the perpetrator of a businessman's murder in Pechersk—which was disguised as a dispute—was convicted
The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for inflicting a fatal stab wound on a 37-year-old businessman. The prosecution proved that the attack was a premeditated crime ordered by competitors, rather than a random conflict.
The crime took place on Lyuteranska Street in Kyiv.
In the courtyard of an apartment building, a 41-year-old man—who had previously been convicted of drug trafficking—stabbed the 37-year-old businessman near his car.
The victim sustained a serious injury and died from blood loss in the ambulance.
At first, the circumstances of the attack might have appeared to be a routine domestic dispute. However, during the trial, the prosecutor proved that the attack had been premeditated.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the victim had previously received threats, and witnesses had seen the future perpetrator in the building’s courtyard the day before the attack.
The man tried to disguise his surveillance of the victim as feeding stray animals. In particular, he bought cat food at a local convenience store.
In fact, as the investigation established, the attacker was studying his future victim’s habits and waiting for the right moment to strike.
When the opportunity arose, he stabbed the victim in the leg, severing an artery.
According to the prosecution, the crime was intended to appear as a domestic dispute, and the attack itself was meant to serve as a warning to the businessman from his opponents.
The defendant’s actions were classified as intentional grievous bodily injury resulting in the victim’s death, committed by a group of individuals and on someone’s orders—Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
At the same time, the case materials concerning the instigators and other accomplices were separated into a separate criminal proceeding.
The trial lasted a long time. One of the reasons was a change in the composition of the court, which meant that the case materials had to be reexamined.
Pursuant to the verdict of the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv, the defendant was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment.
This is the maximum sentence provided for under the relevant article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
In addition, the court granted the victims’ civil claim in the amount of 507,000 hryvnias.
The investigation into possible masterminds and other participants in the crime is ongoing as part of a separate criminal proceeding.

Earlier in Zhytomyr, the case of the head of a heat supply company, who is accused of publicly justifying Russian aggression and making offensive remarks about Ukrainians, was referred to court. According to investigators, he repeatedly made anti-Ukrainian statements while communicating with his subordinates.
