The U.S. Congress has expressed doubts about a new major aid package for Ukraine
Brian Mast, chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, stated that Congress is unlikely to approve a new large-scale financial aid package for Ukraine.
He made this remark in an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
“I don’t believe you’ll see a new U.S. security aid package for Ukraine—whether it’s $6 billion, $60 billion, or any other amount,” Mast said.
According to him, Europe should shoulder the main burden of supporting Ukraine, since the war is taking place “in its backyard.”
At the same time, the congressman noted that the U.S. will continue to support Ukraine in other ways—through arms supplies, intelligence sharing, and sanctions pressure on Russia.
Mast also expressed support for new sanctions against Russia, but stressed that they should not harm U.S. allies more than the aggressor country itself.
Donald Trump’s latest statements on Iran are becoming increasingly harsh. An expert from Tehran believes this indicates growing tension and frustration on the part of the U.S. president.
Trump also threatened Iran with “destruction overnight” and issued an ultimatum regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
