A company commander was detained in Kramatorsk on suspicion of selling weapons

In Kramatorsk, law enforcement officers detained a servicemember suspected of illegally selling military equipment and weapons. According to the investigation, the company commander of one of the battalions sold two drones that were part of his unit’s arsenal, as well as two machine guns. The total value of the transaction was 1.1 million hryvnias.

According to the investigation, the servicemember decided to enrich himself illegally by using military property. In addition to stealing drones from his unit, he, according to law enforcement, established a network for selling illegally acquired weapons, ammunition, and explosives.

In June of this year, the suspect found a buyer through a messaging app. During a face-to-face meeting in Kramatorsk, he sold two “Vampir” drones stolen from his unit, as well as two machine guns.

Law enforcement officers detained the man immediately after the transaction was completed. During searches of his residence and garage, a significant arsenal of weapons and ammunition was discovered. Specifically, more than 1,600 rounds of ammunition of various calibers were seized, two automatic rifles, 102 blocks of plastic explosive, approximately 80 kg of plastic explosive in a bag, a box containing a substance resembling an explosive, and other military equipment.

Law enforcement officials are currently determining the origin of the seized property and verifying whether it belonged to a military unit. The final amount of damages caused to the state will be determined after the necessary expert examinations are conducted.

The servicemember has been notified of charges under Part 4 of Article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (theft of military property under martial law) and Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (the illegal acquisition, possession, and sale of firearms and ammunition without the permission required by law). The penalties under the charged articles provide for imprisonment for up to 15 years. The court ordered the suspect to be held in pretrial detention with the right to post bail.

This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigations.

Officials from the State Bureau of Investigations notified three military personnel of their status as suspects after they were caught attempting to illegally sell a large arsenal of weapons and over a metric ton of explosives. According to the investigation, the stolen ammunition was intended to be sold to civilians.

The SBI caught a soldier illegally selling assault rifles, grenades, and a military drone.
