In Kropyvnytskyi, a Russian agent was planning attacks on energy facilities

The Security Service of Ukraine detained a local resident in Kropyvnytskyi who is suspected of working for Russian intelligence agencies. According to the investigation, the man was gathering information to prepare new missile and drone strikes against targets in Ukraine’s fuel and energy sector.

According to the case file, a Russian handler identified local oil depots, fuel and lubricant warehouses, and key power plants as priority targets for the agent.

The man’s task was to identify the necessary facilities, photograph them, and transmit the corresponding coordinates to the Russian side.

To gather information, the suspect drove around Kropyvnytskyi and the surrounding areas of the region in his own car.

“The suspect also tracked the combat positions of Ukrainian air defense forces and the aftermath of previous shelling,” the SBU noted.

According to the investigation, the suspect turned out to be a local draft dodger with pro-Kremlin views who, according to law enforcement, was recruited by Russian intelligence services.

The SBU reported that the man received agent training from a Russian handler.

In addition, he independently studied methods of conducting intelligence activities using materials from Russian military training institutions found on the internet.

Cybersecurity experts and SBU investigators documented the man’s illegal activities and detained him at his residence.

During a search, law enforcement officers seized a smartphone containing evidence of his activities on behalf of the Russian Federation.

SBU investigators informed the detainee that he is suspected of violating Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—treason committed under martial law.

The suspect is currently in custody.

If found guilty, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
