A scheme involving the sale of apartments belonging to deceased and single individuals has been uncovered in Kropyvnytskyi

In the city of Kropyvnytskyi, a group of individuals has been exposed for illegally seizing apartments belonging to deceased and elderly citizens over the course of several years and reselling them. According to the investigation, the total amount of damages exceeds 5.7 million hryvnias.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

Under the procedural guidance of the Kirovohrad Regional Prosecutor’s Office, six suspects have been notified of the charges against them.

The investigation established that the scheme had been operating since at least 2017. Members of the group sought out apartments whose owners had died or had no heirs, after which they prepared forged documents and registered ownership in the names of straw men.

The apartments were then sold to unsuspecting buyers who were unaware of their illegal origin.

In particular, there are documented cases where an apartment belonging to a woman undergoing medical treatment was registered to a straw person and sold, as well as a case involving the apartment of a deceased man with no heirs.

During searches on April 14, evidence of the suspects’ involvement was seized. Some of the suspects were placed under pretrial detention with the option of bail.

The suspects’ actions have been classified under articles on fraud, document forgery, and money laundering. The investigation is ongoing.

As a reminder, members of an organized group will face trial for systematically defrauding citizens by creating fake bank accounts on messaging apps. Between June and July 2025, the perpetrators defrauded five people of a total of over 1.5 million hryvnias by posing as bank security personnel.

In the capital, a man was notified of his status as a suspect for illegally taking possession of an apartment in Obolon, where academician Oleksandr Shalimov previously resided.
