The Lavra expressed its gratitude for the swift extinguishing of the fire at the Cathedral of the Dormition

Following a nighttime Russian attack, the Cathedral of the Dormition at the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was damaged. In the minutes immediately following the incident, efforts began to address the damage and save the holy site.

According to Bishop Avraam, the Lavra’s abbot, representatives of emergency services arrived at the scene around 2:00 a.m. and immediately began taking measures to contain the damage caused by the strike.

The rapid response of the fire and rescue units played a key role in the emergency response.

“Around 2:00 a.m., together with representatives of the emergency services, we did everything possible to save one of Ukraine’s greatest Orthodox shrines from even greater destruction,” he noted.

Thanks to the rapid response, the fire was contained and its further spread was prevented. Work then began to protect the damaged structures, particularly the roof, to shield the cathedral from the elements.

The Lavra emphasizes that it was the swift actions of the rescue workers that prevented much greater damage.

Currently, conservation work and the installation of a temporary roof covering are underway on the grounds of the shrine. Specialists are working to stabilize the building’s condition and prevent further damage.

The Lavra emphasizes that the strike on the cathedral is part of targeted attacks on Ukraine’s cultural and spiritual heritage.

At the same time, it is noted that thanks to the efforts of rescue workers and emergency response teams, key elements of the historic monument were preserved and the consequences of the damage were minimized.

This was reported by the St. Andrew’s Church.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the G7 summit, showed photographs of the aftermath of the Russian attack on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. This was reported to Reuters by unnamed European diplomats.

As a reminder, Russia attacked the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, causing a fire.

Prior to that, Russian drones struck the Zaporizhzhia region, leaving several people injured.

As a result of the Russian attack on Kharkiv, five State Emergency Service rescuers were killed.
