A soldier from Bukovina, who had been missing for nearly a year, was found in a hospital
Good news has come from one of the hospitals in the Sumy region, where defender Ruslan Mykhailiuk is currently undergoing treatment.
The serviceman from the Chernivtsi region had been officially listed as missing in action since May 2025, but his identity has now been confirmed, and his family has received the long-awaited confirmation that he is alive.
This was reported by the Zastavna City Council, noting that Ruslan Vasylovych’s family had been waiting for any information about his fate for many months.
Currently, the soldier is under medical supervision due to injuries sustained and related health issues that arose while performing combat duties.
“Today we have the joyful news that we have all been waiting for so long, and most of all the family and loved ones of Ruslan Vasylovych Mykhailiuk. Since May 2025, the soldier had been considered missing in action. ... And now—Ruslan has been found,” the city council’s statement reads.
As of now, the circumstances surrounding the soldier’s disappearance remain unknown to the general public.
Local officials emphasize that the journey the soldier had to endure during this time was extremely difficult, but the fact of his return is of the utmost importance to the community.
A long process of rehabilitation and recovery from his ordeal lies ahead for Ruslan Mykhailiuk.
In his native Zastavna community, the defender is wished good health, endurance, and strength for a swift return to a full life among his loved ones.
As a reminder, over 90,000 Ukrainians are missing.
The government is also increasing the minimum payments for the families of fallen and missing defenders.
