Court proceedings in the Farion murder case continued in Lviv

On April 24, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Lviv held another hearing in the case of the murder of linguist Iryna Farion.

This was reported by Suspilne.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution presented sensational evidence found on the phone of suspect Vyacheslav Zinchenko, as well as details of his correspondence with radical groups.

Outside the courthouse, the defendant was met by a crowd with diametrically opposed views: some of those present chanted “Freedom,” while others demanded a life sentence for the young man.

At the start of the hearing, Zinchenko himself tried to convince the court to begin the proceedings from the beginning, citing poor health in the preceding days; however, the judge rejected this motion.

Prosecutor Dmytro Petlovany presented the court with the results of an analysis of encrypted digital resources.

The investigation established a direct link between Zinchenko and the administrator of a Telegram channel associated with a Russian neo-Nazi organization.

It was on this channel that a manifesto calling for the “elimination of a racial traitor” appeared on July 24, accompanied by a 10-second video of the actual moment of the murder.

The prosecution paid particular attention to Zinchenko’s personal notes dated July 8, 2024—the day he left Dnipro for Lviv.

In his text, the young man called himself a “sanitizer of society” and claimed he acted out of personal animosity.

“I sharpened the knife with a quiet smile, and then did what millions wanted,” the found note read.

In the same note, the author emphasized his lack of remorse and his readiness to see it through to the end, even if arrested. The prosecutor emphasized that these notes indicate careful preparation and an ideological basis for the crime.

Zinchenko deliberately denied guilt, counting on the support of radical communities, which later began raising funds for his lawyers.

The hearing was attended by the victim’s daughter, Sofia Osoba, along with her defense team, as well as a group of prosecutors who continue to prove the defendant’s involvement in the high-profile crime.

The investigation considers the identification of the channel administrator’s digital ID and Zinchenko’s ID to be one of the key pieces of technical evidence in the case.

In the Farion case, the court questioned a witness and examined Zinchenko’s phone

In Lviv, the court continuedhearing the case regarding the murder of Faryon.

Earlier, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Lviv extended the pretrial detention of Zinchenko, who is accused of murdering Iryna Farion, until March 9, 2026.

A new witness in the Farion case stated that it was not the defendant Zinchenko who was following her.

As a reminder, the suspect in the Faryon murder case claimed in court that his confession was made under duress.

Additionally, the pretrial detention of the defendant accused of murdering Farion was extended.
