Explosion and Fire in Lviv Leaves Residents Without Gas Supply
In Lviv, an explosion and fire on the evening of 16 March in the Halytske intersection area temporarily cut off gas supply for some residents.
This was reported by the Lviv City Council.
According to the council, the incident occurred when a high-voltage cable fell and caused voltage to enter the gas network, igniting equipment. A bus parked on a private lot — not part of the city’s public transport system — also caught fire as a result.
The fire was contained the same evening, but gas supply was temporarily suspended for safety reasons.
Currently, gas service remains cut off in the following areas:
Malekhiv village
Volodymyra Velykoho Street in Dublyany
Part of Bohdana Khmelnytskoho Street in Lviv
The city council stated that restoration of the gas supply has already begun. Work may take several hours, so temporary disruptions could also affect nearby settlements throughout the day.
For context, Lviv and Mykolaiv are introducing a new heating system format, which may involve lowering the temperature of the heat carrier or temporarily stopping its supply during daytime hours.
