A historic temperature record has been set in Lviv

This year, April 12 in Lviv was marked by an unusual cold snap that broke a temperature record set 40 years ago.

While city residents were preparing for holiday events, temperatures dropped to levels the region hadn’t seen since the mid-1980s.

According to official data from the Lviv Regional Center for Hydrometeorology, the city was gripped by severe frosts on the night of April 12.

The air temperature dropped to -4.8°C, marking the absolute low for this date in the entire history of regular observations.

Experts emphasize that such a sharp drop in temperature in mid-spring is an extremely rare phenomenon.

This is particularly striking against the backdrop of the trend toward global warming, which the U.S. president has repeatedly noted in his addresses on climate change.

The previous record low for this day had stood since 1986. At that time, meteorologists recorded a temperature of -4.5°C, which for four decades was considered the limit of spring cold for the Lviv region.

Forecasters explain that the current temperature record came as a surprise, given the relatively warm start to April in previous years.

A sudden Arctic cold snap resulted in nighttime frosts that were more severe than those at the end of the last century.
