A woman died in Mykolaiv following plastic surgery at a private clinic
In Mykolaiv, police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 34-year-old patient who died the day after undergoing elective plastic surgery at one of the city’s private hospitals. Law enforcement officials have opened a criminal investigation into possible professional negligence on the part of medical staff.
This was reported with reference to the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Mykolaiv region.
“After undergoing elective plastic surgery, the woman died in the hospital the following day. Police investigators have ordered a forensic medical examination to determine the final cause of the woman’s death and are conducting an investigation into the possible negligence of medical staff,” the police statement reads.
According to the investigation, on Saturday, May 9, the 34-year-old woman underwent elective plastic surgery. According to medical protocol, the patient was to remain in the hospital under constant medical supervision for several more days.
The tragedy occurred on Sunday, May 10. During a routine postoperative procedure, the woman’s condition deteriorated sharply—she lost consciousness several times.
“The hospital’s doctors provided the woman with emergency care and called an emergency medical team, but they were unable to save the patient,” the police stated.
Police investigators have opened a criminal case under the article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine regarding the improper performance of professional duties by a medical or pharmaceutical worker, which carries a penalty of up to two years in prison.
In Kharkiv, a 29-year-old woman died following a Russian strike.
