In the Carpathian region, police shot a drunk deserter who was lunging at them with a knife
Law enforcement officers used their service firearms to repel an attack while responding to a call in the village of Seredniy Bereziv in the Kosiv District. The incident occurred after medical personnel reported aggressive behavior by an unknown individual who had threatened to harm them.
This was reported by the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Police.
According to the investigation, the 29-year-old suspect is a military serviceman who had left his unit without permission and was intoxicated. After a warning shot was fired into the air, he continued to advance toward a police officer with a knife, prompting the officer to shoot the attacker in the leg. The wounded man was hospitalized; his life is not currently in danger.
Law enforcement officials have opened a criminal case under Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for an attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer. The suspect faces imprisonment for a term of 9 to 15 years or life imprisonment. Investigative actions are currently underway to establish all the circumstances of the incident.
