Moscow changes prime minister in unrecognized South Ossetia

The leadership of the puppet regime of the self-proclaimed South Ossetia—a Georgian territory occupied by Russia—has announced the dismissal of the current head of government, Dzambolat Tadtayev. 

President Alan Gagloev plans to nominate Marat Kambolov—the former director of the Russian research center “Kurchatov Institute,” headed by Putin’s close friend Mikhail Kovalchuk—as the new prime minister. 

Shortly before this, on May 27, Kambolov had already been appointed as Gagloev’s state advisor. 

The new head of government has been tasked with ensuring the full implementation of the bilateral agreement “on deepening allied cooperation,” signed by Putin and Gagloev on May 9 at the Kremlin. This document provides for the formation of a single economic space, the “harmonization” of legal and tax systems, as well as a significant expansion of military and defense cooperation with Russia. Opposition forces and the government in Tbilisi view the conclusion of this agreement and Moscow’s integrationist steps as an attempt at the de facto and final annexation of the Georgian region.

Meanwhile, Russian filmmaker and propagandist Anna Tits, who created content in support of Russian occupation forces, died after falling into a river in South Ossetia.
