A man and a woman were detained in Poltava for passing information about military and energy facilities to Russia
Law enforcement officials have identified and detained two residents of Poltava suspected of treason under martial law. According to the investigation, they were gathering information about Ukrainian military facilities and critical energy infrastructure and passing it on to Russian representatives. Under the procedural supervision of the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the suspects were notified of the charges against them on July 27.
According to the investigation, a 19-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man agreed in March 2026 to cooperate with representatives of Russian intelligence agencies. In exchange for payment, they gathered and passed on to the enemy information about military facilities, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as critical and energy infrastructure facilities.
The woman photographed and filmed military units and infrastructure facilities in the Poltava region, then sent the materials to a Russian handler. She received payment for the completed tasks in cryptocurrency, which she withdrew to a bank card.
According to the investigation, the man was recruited by a representative of the Russian FSB. He repeatedly traveled from the Poltava region to the Kharkiv region, where he documented military facilities and units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, recorded their coordinates, and noted the date and time of the footage, then transmitted the collected data to his handler via Telegram. To maintain secrecy, he used accounts under women’s names, various phone numbers, and a crypto wallet. He received 6,700 UAH for completing the tasks.
During searches of the suspects’ premises, authorities seized mobile phones, laptops, and bank cards used in the illegal activities.
Both have been notified of their status as suspects under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. At the request of the prosecutor’s office, the court ordered them to be held in pretrial detention.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court verdict, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General.
