A scandal has erupted in Rivne over the construction of a complex of enclosures for birds and primates at the local zoo, costing 12.2 million hryvnias.
City Council member Halyna Kulchynska expressed outrage over the appropriateness of such spending during the war and noted that the city should direct funds toward supporting medical personnel and preschool staff. In response, Deputy Mayor Yevhen Ivanyshyn and zoo management emphasized that the project does not require funding from the city budget.
The project, developed in 2020 and revised due to rising prices, calls for the construction of winter and summer enclosures and viewing platforms covering an area of 1,187 square meters. Zoo officials confirmed that they have already raised 3 million hryvnias from their own revenue, and the remaining funding will be covered by investors and grants.
