The Ukrainian MAUL robotic system will be manufactured in Sweden

The Ukrainian company Aidrones and the Swedish company Njord Technology have agreed to launch production of the MAUL ground-based robotic system in Sweden. The agreement was signed as part of the international “Build with Ukraine” initiative.

According to the project participants, the partnership between the companies began in 2025

Swedish company Njord Technology specializes in the development of autonomous systems, as well as the production of ATVs and snowmobiles.

Aidrones CEO Kostyantyn Hushcha reported that a location for the production site has already been preliminarily identified. It is situated outside the strike range of Russian Shahed-type attack drones, which should ensure uninterrupted production.

It is expected that most of the systems produced will be supplied to Ukraine for the needs of the Armed Forces, specifically for evacuating the wounded from the battlefield.

The MAUL project was created in response to a request from the First Medical Battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which needed a mobile robotic platform for evacuation operations in the challenging conditions of the front lines.

The ground-based robotic system has the following specifications:

Mobility

  • range: up to 110 km on roads and up to 100 km off-road
  • Maximum speed: up to 50 km/h on roads and up to 40 km/h over rough terrain
  • Tactical operating radius: up to 50 km

Operation

  • Autonomous system operation: up to 48 hours
  • Continuous operation: up to 5 hours
  • Crew: 2 people

Design

  • Gross weight: 620 kg
  • Payload capacity: 200 kg
  • Engine: internal combustion (A-95 gasoline), fuel tank—15 liters

Communications and Control

  • Support for fiber-optic control
  • Satellite channels (low-Earth orbit systems)
  • LTE and Wi-Fi
  • Integration with DTC, Silvus, Himera, and other solutions

Situational Awareness

  • Optoelectronic surveillance system
  • Day and night channels
  • Resolution: 1280×720 pixels

MAUL is positioned as a frontline unmanned evacuation platform designed to enhance the safety of medical evacuations and reduce risks to military personnel in combat zones.

This was announced during the Eurosatory exhibition, where the parties officially confirmed their cooperation.

In May 2026, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine officially codified and approved 175 new models of weapons and military equipment (WME) for use by the Defense Forces. The vast majority of these new items—nearly 93%—are the result of the work of Ukrainian designers and manufacturers.

Prior to this, the Ministry of Defense had codified and approved for service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine the domestically produced “Volynyaka” unmanned aerial vehicle system.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine approved the Shablya MK19(M) remotely controlled combat module for use by the troops. It is equipped with an MK19 40-mm automatic grenade launcher.
