A bridge that collapsed during a children's photo shoot has been rebuilt in Vyzhenka
The suspension bridge in the village of Vyzhenka in Bukovina, which collapsed under a group of children in early June, has been fully restored. It was on this very bridge that about 30 children fell into the water while taking a group photo; six of them were injured at the time. The bridge has now been repaired, but the investigation into the causes of the incident is ongoing.
In the village of Vyzhenka in Chernivtsi Oblast, restoration of the suspension bridge—which collapsed on June 6 while a group of children from the city of Lozova was taking a photo—has been completed. During the repairs, workers restored the bridge’s metal frame and installed new wooden decking. Funding for the work was provided by local business owners and philanthropists.
As a reminder, the accident occurred on June 6. About 30 children walked onto the wooden suspension bridge over the Vyzhenka River at the same time to take a group photo. At some point, the structure could not withstand the load and collapsed. As a result of the fall, six children sustained injuries of varying severity. The victims were hospitalized in Chernivtsi. Doctors diagnosed them with traumatic brain injuries, concussions, fractures, contusions, and hematomas. All the children received the necessary medical care.
Following the incident, law enforcement officials opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 137 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—failure to properly fulfill duties regarding the protection of children’s lives and health. The Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor’s Office emphasizes that the bridge’s repair will not affect the course of the investigation. “The restoration of the bridge does not affect the course of the investigation. Investigative actions are currently underway, and law enforcement officials are identifying those responsible for this accident,” said Natalia Sokolovska, spokesperson for the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
The bridge is now ready for use. At the same time, the investigation continues to determine why the structure failed to withstand the load and whether safety requirements were followed during its use. This was reported by the Vyzhnytsia District Military Administration.
