Following yet another Russian attack, a resident of Zaporizhzhia discovered a suspicious metal object near his home. As it turned out, it was a 500-kilogram aircraft bomb, and rescue workers had to use special equipment to safely remove it.
The man promptly reported the discovery to emergency services.
“Specialists from the State Emergency Service identified the object as an unexploded 500-kilogram aerial bomb (FAB-500),” the State Emergency Service stated.
During a further examination, bomb disposal experts determined that the explosive device was located at a considerable depth—about five meters. This significantly complicated the operation and required the use of specialized engineering equipment.
Specialists carried out a series of measures to safely access the munition and subsequently remove it. The operation lasted two days.
“Ultimately, the explosive device was carefully removed, transported to a specially prepared site, and destroyed in compliance with all safety regulations,” the rescue workers said.
