U.S. involvement is critical to putting pressure on Russia and ending the war – Sibiga

Ukraine views the United States as a key leader in the peace process, without whose direct involvement it would be impossible to achieve tangible results. In addition to its diplomatic influence, Washington remains the primary supplier of strategic weapons for the defense of Ukrainian airspace. 

Sybiga made this statement at an event hosted by the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM).

Foreign Minister Sibiga emphasized that it is critically important for Ukraine to continue purchasing weapons through U.S. programs, as this is the only way to obtain air defense systems and long-range missiles. The minister stressed that, alongside defense support, Kyiv needs the U.S. to exert maximum pressure on Moscow to end the aggression. He also welcomed Washington’s leading role in shaping the future security architecture.

The need for strategic air defense systems is growing as Russia refuses to extend the ceasefire and resumes massive drone strikes. Ukraine expects the U.S. to increase pressure on the aggressor, using all available economic and political levers. According to the minister, only a consolidated position involving U.S. capabilities will allow the war to end on fair terms.

Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen stated that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is beginning to show signs of genuine readiness for peace talks regarding the war against Ukraine.

Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski noted during a discussion with his Ukrainian counterpart at the PISM Strategic Ark conference that Russia is currently losing more personnel than it is able to mobilize. According to him, the occupying forces have already lost the battle for the Black Sea, and Russian aviation does not have an advantage in Ukrainian airspace.
