Ukraine is ready to share its experience with Azerbaijan to strengthen air defense
Ukraine is ready to share with Azerbaijan the experience it gained in operating air defense systems during the war with Russia. This was stated by Chief of the General Staff Andriy Hnatov. According to him, the cooperation involves modernizing defense capabilities and adapting air defense systems to contemporary threats. The parties have not yet disclosed specific details.
Ukraine has offered Azerbaijan assistance in strengthening its air defense system. This involves the experience the Ukrainian military gained during the full-scale war against Russia. According to Andriy Gnativ, Kyiv is ready to share practical know-how that helps protect cities and critical infrastructure from missiles and drones. “Ukraine is ready to share its expertise and assist in organizing and strengthening the air defense system,” Gnativ said.
He added that some details of the cooperation are not being disclosed yet, as this is a matter of bilateral agreements between the states. The Chief of the General Staff also explained that the main goal of such cooperation is to help Azerbaijan modernize its defense system in light of current challenges. “In general, the goal is one: to help Azerbaijan modernize its defense and bring it in line with today’s challenges,” he emphasized.
Discussions on cooperation between the countries intensified following the Ukrainian delegation’s visit to Azerbaijan in April. At that time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Baku along with representatives of the Ukrainian government.
In recent years, Ukraine has effectively become one of the countries with the most combat experience in the field of air defense. Due to constant Russian attacks, the Ukrainian military was forced to quickly adapt its defense systems, combine different types of weapons, and seek new ways to combat drones and missiles. It is precisely this practical experience that is now attracting interest from many of Ukraine’s partners.
In addition to air defense, Kyiv has recently been actively promoting other forms of defense cooperation. Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on European countries to conclude bilateral “drone deals”—agreements on the joint production and development of unmanned aerial vehicles.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, during which the parties discussed the further development of bilateral relations.
Recall that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated his intention to develop cooperation with Ukraine, particularly in the energy and defense sectors.
Ukraine has declared its readiness for a new round of negotiations with Russia in Azerbaijan. This involves a trilateral format with the participation of mediators. Everything depends on whether Moscow is ready for genuine diplomacy.
