Five projects have been selected for the Ukrainian Pavilion at the 2027 Architecture Biennale

The Ukrainian Institute has announced the results of the first round of the open competition to select a concept for the Ukrainian Pavilion at the 2027 Venice Architecture Biennale. Following the selection process, five projects have advanced to the next stage of the competition and are vying to represent Ukraine in Venice.

This was reported on the project’s website.

The following projects were selected for the next stage:

Beyond Shelter, NGO "METALAB";

TOLOKA. MICROCOMMUNITY NEUROARCHITECTURE, Non-Governmental Organization "Cultural Forces";

"All Flows and All Passes," Public Organization "European Architecture Students Assembly of Ukraine";

Early Birds, PlatformaBuro;

"Salut. Peremoha," Cultural and Educational Institution "Museum of Contemporary Art in Odessa."

The next stage will be the presentation of the projects and the announcement of the winner selected by the jury.

The contract with the competition winner is expected to be signed on June 29, 2026.

The International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia – takes place every two years in Venice. As part of the exhibition, participating countries present their own pavilions and architectural visions that address contemporary social, technological, and cultural challenges.

The 20th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia – will run from May 8 to November 21, 2027 (preview on May 6–7). The exhibition is curated by Wang Shu and Lu Wenyu—architects and educators who founded the School of Architecture at the China Academy of Art.

Since 2025, the Ukrainian Institute has served as the commissioner of the Ukrainian Pavilion and acts as the key organizer and coordinator of Ukraine’s participation in the Venice Biennale.

The 2026 VeniceBiennale became the largest in history.

More than 50 Pussy Riot activists and members of the FEMEN movement occupied the Russian pavilion at the Venice Biennale, staging a large-scale protest against Russian aggression.

In Qatar, the VeniceBiennale is not an exhibition, but a space for people.

The Estonian Pavilion at this year’s 61st Venice Biennale rejects the idea of a finished exhibition and instead offers a living process that unfolds right before the viewers’ eyes. The project “The Leaking Sky House” transforms the pavilion space into an open studio where art is literally born every day.

The Greek Pavilion at the 2026 Venice Biennale is turning into an interactive game where the viewer is no longer an observer but a participant. The “Escape Room” project compels visitors to interact with the space and their own reactions, rather than simply looking at art. It is an attempt to show how people today seek a way to “escape” reality, yet in fact remain trapped within it.
