Ukraine plans to build 1.3 GW of new generating capacity

The government has decided to hold a tender for the construction of over 1.3 GW of new generating capacity as part of the Resilience Plan. The initiative aims to strengthen the power grid and address the capacity shortage caused by Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.

This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

Ukraine is expanding its power grid

The government has decided to hold a tender for the construction of over 1.3 GW of new generating capacity as part of the Resilience Plans and has approved the terms for its implementation.

The goal of the initiative is to strengthen Ukraine’s power grid and cover the power shortage caused by Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.

The new capacity will be built in regions where the need is greatest:

• Kyiv and Cherkasy regions – 250 MW;
• Sumy, Kharkiv, and Poltava regions – 872 MW;
• Dnipropetrovsk region – 100 MW;
• Odesa region – 100 MW.

Bids may be submitted within three months of the Ministry of Energy’s official announcement of the tender.

An incentive mechanism is provided for participants: payment for the service of ensuring the development of generating capacity will amount to up to 27.92 euro cents per 1 kWh for five years after the facility is commissioned.

The maximum timeframe for project implementation and commissioning of new capacity is set at up to 20 months. Requirements for the engineering protection of energy facilities have also been established.

The government emphasizes that it continues to systematically expand distributed and reserve generation as part of preparations for the upcoming heating season and new energy challenges.
