A Crimean native has been charged with participating in hostilities against the Ukrainian Armed Forces

A Simferopol native has been charged with treason for participating in hostilities against the Ukrainian Armed Forces as part of the Russian military.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

According to the investigation, in late February 2024, the 42-year-old Ukrainian citizen voluntarily signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense in the Leningrad region and was assigned as a grenadier to a reconnaissance company of a Russian military unit.

After training in the temporarily occupied Luhansk region and serving in Pskov, he was transferred to the Belgorod region in late February 2026, and later to the Vovchansk direction in the Kharkiv region.

According to the investigation, he participated in assault operations, accompanied reconnaissance missions, and facilitated the advance of Russian troops toward Ukrainian positions.

On March 7, 2026, the man was taken prisoner by Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel. He is charged with treason committed under martial law. He is currently being held in custody as a prisoner of war.
