Ukraine has already managed to bring back 2,126 children abducted by Russia as part of the Bring Kids Back UA initiative.
This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his address to participants at Civil Society and Expert Day.
According to him, efforts to return the children are ongoing, and Ukraine is engaging international mediators and partners to achieve this.
The President emphasized that the forced removal of Ukrainian children, their dispersal across Russian territory, the alteration of their identities, and their militarization constitute one of the most cynical war crimes.
He stressed the importance of returning the children home as soon as possible, before the occupiers inflict even greater harm on them.
Zelenskyy also thanked partner countries, international organizations, diplomats, and journalists who are involved in the process of returning the children and support this initiative.
A high-level meeting dedicated to the issue of returning Ukrainian children deported by Russia will take place in Brussels on May 11. It will be jointly hosted by the European Union, Ukraine, and Canada. During the event, participants plan to discuss specific mechanisms for returning children to Ukraine, as well as steps to hold Russia accountable.
Ukraine has managed to return two children who were left without parental care in Kazakhstan and found themselves in another country. The brother and sister were evacuated from Almaty following a complex, multi-stage operation coordinated by Ukrainian authorities. The children are now safely at home.
