A Ukrainian woman has used artificial intelligence to create a service that helps parents choose a school
Choosing a school for a child often turns into a real quest. Technically, all information about the results of the National Multisubject Test (NMT) is publicly available, but it’s quite difficult to find the necessary data, compare schools, and draw conclusions without a lengthy analysis.
This is exactly the problem Anastasia Melnikova, QA Lead at the Ukrainian IT company IT DiKo Code, faced after moving to Kyiv. While looking for a school for her 11-year-old son, she realized that parents essentially have to analyze dozens of tables of official statistics on their own.
Instead, she decided to leverage the capabilities of modern artificial intelligence and created the EDTOP service, which automatically processes open government data and generates easy-to-understand rankings of Ukrainian schools.

The service allows users not only to see a school’s ranking in their city, region, or nationwide, but also to assess how National Multidisciplinary Test (NMT) results have changed over several years. Separate statistics are available for each subject, helping users understand whether a school excels in the humanities or in science and math.
In addition to official statistics, the school pages include basic information about the school and user reviews, so that parents can evaluate a school based on more than just test results.
According to the developer, a feature allowing users to compare multiple schools based on key parameters will be added to the service soon. This will enable users to quickly compare schools on their shortlist.
Looking ahead, the team plans to create a comprehensive ranking that will take into account not only NMT results but also other factors—including user reviews and the school’s overall online reputation.
The project’s creator notes that her main goal is to make the school selection process as simple and straightforward as possible for parents by transforming large sets of open government data into a convenient decision-making tool.
