The Ukrainian FP-2 drone has been upgraded with a missile system — Defense Express

The Ukrainian FP-2 long-range drone has undergone a unique modification that will radically change the tactics used to carry out deep strikes against the invaders' military targets.

This was reported by Defense Express.

Designers have equipped the aircraft with unguided air-to-ground missiles, significantly increasing its firepower.

The upgraded aircraft has already successfully completed its mission deep within the temporarily occupied territories.

Engineers managed to integrate heavy missile armament into the design of a relatively lightweight unmanned aerial vehicle.

According to the report, in the new configuration of the Ukrainian drone, two blocks of unguided air-to-ground missiles are mounted on the wings on both sides, with four missiles in each, providing a total salvo of eight missiles.

Such firepower allows for covering large areas and destroying light armored vehicles and enemy personnel.

Experts conducted a preliminary assessment of the installed armament based on available visual materials.

The publication’s analysts note that precise data on the type of missiles is currently unavailable, but given their size, they are likely 57-mm S-5 missiles.

These munitions were previously used exclusively by Soviet aircraft and helicopters, and have now found a new life on unmanned platforms.

This new development in the defense industry has already demonstrated its capabilities during a real combat mission.

An unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with a new interface and a targeting reticle fired missiles at a strategic secure communications node of the Russian Black Sea Fleet near the city of Mirny in the temporarily occupied Crimea.

Despite active countermeasures from enemy electronic warfare systems, the strike mission ended with the successful destruction of the designated target.

According to him, this combined use of kamikaze drones and 8 NURSs opens up entirely new possibilities for the Ukrainian military behind enemy lines.

The presence of a powerful warhead combined with a rocket salvo allows for the execution of complex multi-purpose missions in a single sortie.
