Ukrainian singer criticized Ukraine's accession to the EU
Yurko Yurchenko, a well-known Ukrainian musician, frontman of the rock band Yurcash, and military servicemember, spoke out on Ukraine’s potential accession to the European Union.
The artist explained what he believes the consequences of EU membership might be for Ukraine and stated that this process could be harmful to the country.
Yurko Yurchenko commented on a statement by Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister for National Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, who said that Ukraine would not be able to join the EU unless it resolved its historical conflicts with Poland. According to the Polish official, Ukraine will not join the EU “with Bandera on its flag.”
At the same time, Yurko Yurchenko believes that Ukraine does not need to join the EU. He also pointed out ironically that “Bandera is already in the EU,” since he is buried in Munich, Germany, which is a member of the European Union. “Yet another Pole has claimed that Ukraine won’t be able to join the EU without resolving historical disputes with Poland. In other words, we’ll only be able to join the EU without Bandera (let me remind you that Stepan Andriyovych is already in the European Union. In Munich.) That’s not bad news, because screw it—we don’t need that Union,” the musician wrote.
Yurko Yurchenko explained that he has visited EU countries but didn’t see anything there that he liked. In particular, he mentioned the chaos, indifference, neglect in some places, and problems with behavioral norms, which, in his opinion, Ukraine doesn’t need. “I’ve been everywhere and seen it all—we don’t need that controlled chaos, tolerant indifference, ghetto-level ‘order,’ or international lack of culture!” Yurchenko believes.
At the same time, the singer praised the United Kingdom for leaving the European Union. He also hinted that Ukraine wants to join a new union again, even though it left another one—the USSR—just over 30 years ago. So the artist addressed Ukrainians and asked whether they really need to join the EU.
“The Brits rule because they know what’s up. And we, in general, haven’t even left one union of unbreakable freedoms yet… P.S.: This is the subjective opinion of a person who has radically changed his attitude toward the EU over the past few years. And what do you think, folks? Are you packing your bags? Or is it not for us?” he concluded.

Ukraine has opened the sixth cluster of negotiations on EU accession.
As a reminder, Lithuania will open the sixth cluster for Ukraine in the EU accession negotiations on Tuesday, July 14. The other clusters will be postponed until the fall.
The European Commission has officially approved Hungary’s accession to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO). The country will become the 25th member of the body, which investigates crimes related to the use of EU budget funds.
