Ukrainians consider a salary of 40,000–60,000 hryvnias to be a fair wage for teachers

Most Ukrainians believe that the work of educators is undervalued and that the salaries of teachers and professors should be significantly higher. This is evidenced by the results of a survey presented by the research company SocioStream.

According to the study, 93% of respondents support raising salaries for education workers and consider this a priority for government policy. The average amount respondents cited as fair for a school teacher is 43,000 hryvnias, and for a higher education instructor, 55,000 hryvnias.

At the same time, educators themselves expressed more modest expectations during in-depth interviews—starting at 20,000 hryvnias.

Nearly 98% of survey participants consider the teaching profession to be socially important, and over 90% emphasize the high level of responsibility and complexity of this work. At the same time, 75% are convinced that teaching does not provide a high level of income.

Additionally, 88.5% of respondents cited the shortage of young teachers in schools as a serious problem. They attribute this primarily to low pay and a heavy workload.

Heads of general secondary education institutions must update teacher data in the “Automated Information Complex for Educational Management” (AIKOM) so that deferments from military conscription continue automatically.

Starting September 1, teachers in Ukraine are guaranteed a 20% pay raise.
