Ukraine will be hit by a heat wave with temperatures reaching +38° and a high risk of wildfires

On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Ukraine is expected to experience one of the hottest days of the summer—with temperatures reaching up to 38° in some areas. At the same time, most regions have declared an extreme fire danger level due to the dry and hot weather.

All of Ukraine will be under the influence of dry, hot weather with no precipitation. Nighttime temperatures will range from 18–23°—even the nighttime coolness will be barely noticeable. During the day, temperatures in the east and northeast of the country will reach 30–34°, while the rest of the country will heat up to 35–38°. Winds will be variable, 3–8 m/s—too weak to bring any relief from the scorching August sun.

August 4–6 in Ukraine—with the exception of the Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia regions on August 4—an extreme fire danger level has been declared. In the Kyiv region, it will also be in effect August 4–6: weather conditions will create a high probability of fires starting and spreading in ecosystems in the presence of any ignition sources—such as open flames.

On Tuesday, August 4, Kyiv will experience dry, hot weather with no precipitation—the capital will be at the epicenter of the heatwave. Winds will be variable, 3–8 m/s. Temperatures in the Kyiv region will range from 18–23° at night to a severe heatwave of 35–37° during the day; in Kyiv, temperatures will range from 20–22° at night to a scorching 35° during the day.

This was reported by the “Ukrhydrometcenter.”

As a reminder, a new heat wave with temperatures up to +35° will sweep across Ukraine in early August.

The heatwave in Belgium caused the highest rate of excess mortality in Europe.
