Ukrzaliznytsia has listed the trains for which a paper ticket is required
Passengers on certain international Ukrzaliznytsia trains must have a printed paper ticket with them. Simply showing an electronic ticket on a mobile app screen will not be sufficient to board the train on these routes.
The requirement to have a printed ticket applies exclusively to trains running to and from Austria and Hungary. After successfully purchasing a seat in the official UZ app, passengers must download the PDF file themselves and print it out in advance before the start of the journey. Conductors on these routes will only check physical tickets during boarding.
This rule applies to the following seven specific routes:
No. 009K Kyiv — Budapest
No. 010K Budapest — Kyiv
No. 749D Kyiv — Vienna
No. 149D Vienna — Kyiv
No. 140D Chop — Vienna
No. 146D Chop — Vienna
No. 143D Vienna — Chop
For all other Ukrzaliznytsia trains—both domestic routes within Ukraine and other international destinations—no additional requirements have been introduced. To successfully pass inspection, passengers, as before, simply need to present the QR code of their ticket from their smartphone, which railway staff scan using special mobile inspection terminals or POS devices.
This was reported by the railway carrier’s press service.
