Ukrzaliznytsia has suspended monthly payments to mobilized employees
Ukrzaliznytsia has stopped paying mobilized employees their average monthly earnings. Instead, the company has introduced a one-time financial allowance following mobilization and upon veterans’ return to work. This was announced on August 5 by Andriy Boikachov, head of the Southwestern Railway trade union, citing a decision by the company’s board of directors.
The new rules took effect on August 1, 2026. Until then, Ukrzaliznytsia had been paying the average earnings—but no more than two minimum wages per month—to employees serving in the Defense Forces at its own expense.
From now on, these monthly payments have been canceled. Instead, employees mobilized starting in 2022 will receive a one-time financial assistance payment equal to two months’ salary. A similar payment is also provided for upon the employee’s return to the company.
In addition, additional payments have been introduced for veterans who return to work at Ukrzaliznytsia. After six months of work, they will be eligible to receive 50,000 UAH, and after 18 months—another 50,000 UAH.
Veterans will also be entitled to additional paid leave of up to 14 calendar days during the first six months after returning to work. This leave may be used for rehabilitation.
In addition, veteran employees will receive double the standard financial assistance in the event of the birth or adoption of a child.
According to the company, as of the end of 2024, approximately 10,500 Ukrzaliznytsia employees were serving in the Defense Forces, accounting for more than 6% of its workforce.

As a reminder, Ukrzaliznytsia has updated the procedure for booking trips for organized groups of passengers. From now on, requests to reserve group tickets can be submitted via an online service, but the processing and purchase of tickets will still take place at specialized railway ticket offices.
