The government has allocated 1.2 billion hryvnias for laboratories and educational spaces in high schools — Svyrydenko

The government has allocated 1.2 billion hryvnias to establish modern laboratories and educational spaces in high schools that are the first to implement the specialized high school reform.

This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

According to her, the funding is intended to help educational institutions prepare for the launch of the three-year specialized upper secondary school program and create high-quality learning conditions.

Lyceums piloting the specialized upper secondary school program in the fields of natural sciences, technology, and computer science will be able to receive up to 10 million hryvnias to upgrade laboratories and learning spaces.

Distance-learning lyceums are allocated 2 million hryvnias each to create a digital educational environment.

In addition, the government has revised the allocation of funds for modernizing classrooms in elementary schools for students in grades 5–9, taking into account community proposals.

Special schools and educational-rehabilitation centers have also officially been granted the right to funding for classroom upgrades.

Separately, the allocation of funds for equipping learning spaces for the subject “Defense of Ukraine” was revised.

As a reminder, Ukraine is experiencing an unprecedented housing shortage, which has reached its largest scale in the country’s history. According to estimates by the state-owned company Ukrfinzhytlo, the total demand for living space amounts to a staggering 600 million square meters. Despite the significant contribution of the state program "eOselya," which covers 98% of home purchase loan programs in Ukraine, its capabilities are insufficient to overcome the current crisis.

The state program “eOselya” dominates the market and leaves no room for the development of market-based mortgages.
