Georgiy Tykhyi, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented on the incident involving the downing of a drone over Estonia on May 19.
He wrote about this on social media platform X.
According to him, Russia continues to deliberately redirect Ukrainian drones toward the Baltic states using electronic warfare, and accompanies these actions with active propaganda.
“Moscow is doing this deliberately, combining it with intensified propaganda. We apologize to Estonia and all our Baltic friends for such unintentional incidents,” Tykhyi stated.
He emphasized that Ukraine maintains close cooperation with specialized agencies to investigate each such case and develop mechanisms to prevent such situations with the participation of Ukrainian experts.
Separately, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized that Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Finland have never permitted the use of their airspace for strikes against Russia, and Ukraine, he said, has not made such requests either.
“Moreover, Ukraine has never requested such use,” he noted.
Tikhyi also stated that Russia has no right to shift responsibility for the consequences of its own aggression onto Ukraine or countries in the region that support Kyiv.
After noon on May 19, the Estonian Armed Forces issued an air threat warning in the south of the country.
In Estonia, fighter jets shot down a drone that was likely a Ukrainian strike drone and had accidentally strayed into the country’s airspace. An air raid alert was declared in parts of Estonia following the incident.
