A researcher at the Military Academy was taken into custody in Odesa on suspicion of treason

The Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office announced that a 45-year-old research associate at the Military Academy in Odesa is suspected of high treason; a court has ordered him to be held in custody without the right to post bail.

The suspect, a military engineer, had access to state secrets, worked with information classified as “secret” and “top secret,” and participated in organizing research in the field of military-technical engineering. Through Telegram, the man passed information to representatives of the Russian Federation regarding scientific and technical developments in the fields of unmanned aerial vehicles, missile weapons, and cutting-edge technological projects.

According to the investigation, the suspect held pro-Russian views, denied Ukrainian independence, and had been in contact with relatives and acquaintances in the Oryol Region of the Russian Federation since early 2023, after which he agreed to an offer from Russian representatives to cooperate in exchange for a steady salary. Following a potential occupation, the scientist expected to receive a position in the military command structure of the new “administration.” While carrying out another assignment, he attempted to recruit another employee to expand his network of agents at a military educational institution, which led to conflicts with colleagues due to his open pro-Russian agitation. During searches at his workplace, law enforcement officers seized a cell phone, a laptop, and a flash drive containing intelligence information. In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
