The Rada proposes keeping three subjects for the National Multidisciplinary Test instead of four

An alternative bill to change the format of the National Multisubject Test (NMT) has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada. The bill proposes reducing the number of subjects tested from four to three.

Bill No. 15254-1, dated June 2, 2026, was supported by lawmakers from various political factions.

“We are proposing a solution similar to the one that worked successfully before the war and yielded good results,” the lawmaker noted.

Gryshyna emphasized that the current NMT format places an excessive burden on applicants, as it requires them to take four subjects in a single day and undergo four hours of continuous testing.

“In the current reality, four subjects in one day and four hours of continuous testing is not just an excessive psychological burden, but also a direct safety risk of the exam being interrupted due to air raid alerts or shelling in shelters,” the MP believes.

According to the bill’s authors, the NMT should be structured as follows:

  • Ukrainian language — a required subject;
  • Ukrainian history—a required subject;
  • one subject of the applicant’s choice.

At the same time, they propose making mathematics optional for all applicants, while keeping it required for admission to majors where it is a core subject.

“Mathematics remains, but it is up to the student to choose it for admission to relevant majors. It is strategically important for the state to support technical and engineering majors; however, making the math exam mandatory for all majors does not solve the problem but only complicates it,” noted Grishina.

In her opinion, other incentives are needed to promote technical fields, including:

  • increasing the weight of math scores through additional coefficients;
  • increasing scholarships for students in technical fields;
  • expanding internship programs with the opportunity to earn income while still in school;
  • increasing state-funded enrollment and grant support;
  • an active information campaign on the prospects of technical education.

“Motivation solves the problem,” the MP concluded.

Thus, the authors of the bill propose returning to a simplified model of entrance exams, arguing that this would both reduce the burden on graduates and mitigate security risks in wartime conditions.

This was reported by Yulia Grishina, a member of parliament from the “Servant of the People” party, on Facebook.

The registration in the Verkhovna Rada of a bill proposing to remove mathematics from the list of mandatory subjects for the National Multidisciplinary Test (NMT) starting in 2027 sparked a wave of outrage in the educational and scientific communities

The Ministry of Education and Science has approved the 2026 EIT calendar: registration dates, exam sessions, and the announcement of results.

The main sessions of the National Multidisciplinary Test have begun in Ukraine.
