Video: Police Officer Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison for Fatal Traffic Accident in Pryluky
The Pryluky City and District Court in Chernihiv Oblast sentenced a former police officer to eight years in prison for a fatal traffic accident that resulted in the death of a six-year-old child.
The court found the woman guilty under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and imposed the maximum sentence provided for under that article. In addition to imprisonment, the defendant was barred from driving for three years.
According to the investigation, the accident occurred on December 10, 2025, at approximately 11:44 a.m. in Pryluky. The police officer was driving a Mitsubishi Outlander on duty and was responding to a call regarding another traffic accident. On Vyacheslav Chornovil Street, she approached an unmarked crosswalk where a woman and her six-year-old daughter were crossing the street.
The prosecutor’s office noted that the vehicle was traveling at a speed of approximately 51–55 km/h in a 40 km/h zone. The vehicle’s flashing lights were on, but the special audible signal was not used. The driver did not slow down before the crosswalk, did not yield to pedestrians, and did not take any measures to stop the vehicle.
An expert examination determined that the police officer had the technical ability to avoid the collision had she complied with the Traffic Rules. As a result of the accident, the child sustained fatal injuries, and her mother suffered moderate bodily injuries.
The Office of the Prosecutor General reported that the defendant only partially admitted guilt. The court also granted the victims’ civil claims and ordered the defendant to pay 6 million hryvnias in compensation for emotional distress.

As a reminder, in Pryluky, Chernihiv Oblast, a police officer struck a woman and her 6-year-old daughter at a crosswalk. The child died from her injuries, and the mother was hospitalized.
The prosecutor’s office is preparing to appeal the pretrial measure imposed on the police officer who, while driving a police vehicle, struck and killed a 6-year-old girl in Pryluky on December 10.
