A storm warning has been issued in several regions of Ukraine
A significant deterioration in weather conditions is expected in Ukraine on Saturday, May 23. Forecasters at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center have issued a Level 1 (yellow) hazard warning due to expected thunderstorms, gusty winds, and the risk of hail.
This was reported by the State Emergency Service (SES) citing official data from meteorologists.
The unfavorable weather conditions will affect a significant part of the country during the day. In particular, severe weather is forecast for all eastern and southern regions of Ukraine. Additionally, the Sumy, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kirovohrad regions will be hit by the storm. According to experts, hail is possible during thunderstorms in some areas of these regions, and gusts of squall winds will occasionally reach dangerous speeds of 15–20 meters per second.
Rescue workers and meteorologists warn that strong winds and heavy rains may cause temporary disruptions in the operations of construction, utility, and energy companies. The bad weather may also complicate or slow down road traffic on certain sections of highways due to reduced visibility and the risk of falling branches. Citizens are advised to exercise extreme caution while outdoors, avoid parking cars under large trees, and be sure to take storm warnings into account when planning trips.
Earlier, due to severe weather in the Kyiv region, more than 80,000 consumers were left without power. The cause was strong winds that knocked down trees and damaged power lines. Utility crews are already on site and working to restore power as quickly as possible.
