Corn prices have begun to fall in Ukraine
The Ukrainian feed corn market continued to see downward price trends last week. Grain prices are being influenced by the start of the late-season harvest, significant carryover stocks, and subdued demand from most consumers.
The corn harvest has already begun in five regions of Ukraine—Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Poltava, and Lviv.
According to experts, as of September 7, farmers had harvested 43,200 metric tons of corn from 12,000 hectares. The average yield was 35.9 centners per hectare.
“Corn is already being harvested in five regions of Ukraine (Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Poltava, and Lviv), but as of September 7, only 43,200 metric tons had been harvested from 12,000 hectares, with a yield of 35.9 centners per hectare. Prices for new-crop grain ranged from 6,000 to 7,000 UAH/metric ton CIF,” experts say.
Demand prices for old-crop corn were mostly in the range of 7,000–8,000 UAH/metric ton. At the same time, in some regions, they rose to 8,700 UAH/metric ton C&F.
The market continues to be affected by subdued demand, which, combined with large carryover stocks and the start of the new harvest season, is contributing to a gradual decline in prices.
Last week, feed corn was sold at Ukrainian ports in the range of $173–180 per metric ton on CPT-port terms.
Thus, the start of new-crop grain arrivals and ample supply continue to put pressure on Ukrainian feed corn prices.
