There is a proposal in Ukraine to eliminate front license plates on cars
An online petition has been filed in Ukraine proposing to eliminate the requirement to install a front license plate on passenger cars. The author of the initiative is calling on the government to revise current legislation and allow the use of only a rear license plate.
According to the petition’s author, the front license plate detracts from the appearance of many cars, especially models not designed to accommodate it. Furthermore, mounting it often requires drilling into the bumper or using special frames, which can damage the vehicle.
As an alternative, the author proposes using modern vehicle identification methods, including automatic camera systems, government databases, VIN codes, and rear license plates. The author also calls for studying the experience of countries where the use of only a rear license plate is already permitted.
The petition was registered on July 6. For it to be considered by the Cabinet of Ministers, 25,000 signatures must be collected. As of July 7, 40 people had supported the petition.
