Demand for firewood has surged in Ukraine: sales have doubled

Ukrainians and social institutions are buying firewood at a significantly higher rate. Since the beginning of the year, nearly 1.1 million cubic meters of firewood have been sold in Ukraine, which is roughly twice as much as during the same period last year.

This was reported by the press service of the State Forestry Agency of Ukraine.

Usually, foresters urge Ukrainians to stock up on firewood for the winter in advance and not to put off purchasing it until the fall. But this year, firewood is being snapped up more actively than ever. On average, 225,000 m³ are shipped out every month! In previous years, such demand was observed exclusively during the peak months of the heating season.

Nearly 1.1 million cubic meters of firewood have been sold to the public and social sector facilities, which is twice as much as during the same period in 2025 (534,000 cubic meters).

All conditions are in place for this year to reach the highest level of firewood consumption since the company’s inception—over 3 million m³.

  • 2023 — 2.97 million m³;

  • 2024 — 2.78 million m³;

  • 2025 — 2.45 million m³.

Despite high demand, firewood is available. The company’s warehouses currently hold approximately 200,000 m³ of firewood. We continuously monitor and ensure sufficient stockpiles in each of our 1,340 forest districts.

Our plan by the end of the year is to harvest an additional 2 million m³ to meet household needs. Firewood prices for the public will remain stable. Currently, they are nearly half the prices set on the exchange. Provided there are no sharp fluctuations in prices for fuel and lubricants, services, and logistics, the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” guarantees that firewood prices will remain unchanged until the end of the 2026/2027 heating season.

Traditionally, the most expensive firewood is hardwood, which has a high calorific value (Group I — 1,400 UAH including VAT). Next comes Group II firewood (pine, alder — 1,100 UAH including VAT), and the cheapest is Group III firewood — 950 UAH including VAT (spruce, fir, softwood species).

In addition to selling firewood to the public, the state-owned enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” actively participates in tender purchases for the social sector, budgetary institutions, and units of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Since the beginning of 2026, 813 contracts have been signed for the supply of 247,000 m³ of firewood, of which over 130,000 m³ have already been shipped.
