In Ukraine, meteorologists have addressed rumors about a hot summer in 2026
Ukrainians are advised to rely on official forecasts rather than online rumors. Recently, social media has been flooded with reports of an allegedly “abnormally hot” summer in 2026, but the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has clarified whether this is true.
This was reported with reference to a post by the Ukrhydrometcenter press service on Facebook.
Can we draw conclusions about summer weather right now?
"Sensational claims about an 'abnormally hot summer' are appearing in the media again, even though they do not align with scientific assessments," the agency told Ukrainians.
It is clarified that, according to data from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), we are currently only talking about "the probable development of ENSO" (the so-called El Niño or Southern Oscillation).
At the same time, "neutral conditions prevail, and the chance of El Niño is about 40%."
"This is not a weather forecast, but a global climate signal," the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center reported.
In addition, forecasters at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center emphasize: "It is too early to draw conclusions about the summer."
"And there is no direct link between fluctuations in the surface temperature of the Pacific Ocean in its central and eastern equatorial regions and the weather in Ukraine," the experts added.
It is noted that "a certain indirect correlation can be observed," but it "requires more detailed study and analysis by scientists."
"But it is precisely these cautious formulations that are often turned into categorical statements in the media, which amounts to manipulation and clickbait," the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center stated.

Finally, Ukrainians were told that, in reality, “seasonal forecasts do not provide specific temperatures or precipitation distributions.” That is, they only refer to:
trends;
probabilities.
