Construction of the Dnipro–Kyiv highway has resumed in Ukraine

Construction of the H-31 highway connecting Dnipro, Tsarychanka, Kobelyaky, and Reshetylivka—which had been suspended following the outbreak of full-scale war—resumed in the spring of 2026. Work is currently underway on a 29.5-kilometer section in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The first completed section of the road is scheduled to open to traffic by the end of this year.

This is one of the main routes intended to connect Dnipro with Kyiv. Construction of the H-31 was suspended in February 2022 due to the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. In the spring of 2026, work on the highway resumed. Currently, road workers are working on a 29.5-kilometer section in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Several types of work are already underway on the road. Specialists are laying the middle layer of asphalt concrete, preparing the subgrade, and installing the road surface. They are also installing drainage and water diversion systems. At the same time, construction workers are erecting structures and relocating utility lines that are hindering construction.

Hundreds of people and pieces of equipment are working on the highway

More than 350 pieces of specialized equipment have been deployed for the construction. Nearly 600 people are working on the project. The project calls for the new highway to have four lanes—two in each direction. The road will also bypass several settlements.

Specifically, the H-31 is set to bypass Loboykivka, Petrykivka, Mohyliv, Kytayhorod, Tsarychanka, and Lyashkivka. This should make the route faster and reduce through traffic through these towns.

When will the new road be open to traffic?

According to the plan, the first completed section of the H-31 is scheduled to open to traffic by the end of 2026. However, the full completion of all work will depend on the pace of construction and the conditions under which road workers operate.

Why this highway is important

The H-31 is set to become a vital transportation route between Dnipro, central Ukraine, and Kyiv. During the full-scale war, the road’s importance has grown even further. It is used for transportation and plays a crucial role in humanitarian and military logistics.

Once construction is complete, drivers will no longer have to pass through populated areas on certain sections of the route. The four lanes are also expected to make travel more convenient and safer. For now, construction crews continue to work on the highway. The main immediate goal is to complete the first section and open it to traffic by the end of the year. This was reported by Ukraine’s Ministry of Recovery, Infrastructure, and Transport.

Law enforcement officials have uncovered a scheme involving the illegal extraction of minerals at a deposit near Uzhhorod. According to the investigation, the state suffered losses of over 949.8 million hryvnias, and four participants in the scheme—including a deputy of the Transcarpathian Regional Council—have already been notified of their status as suspects.
