Potato prices have fallen again in Ukraine

Potato prices have fallen again in Ukraine

Potato prices in Ukraine have been falling for the second week in a row. The main reason for this trend is the widespread harvest in the main producing regions and an increase in market supply.

As of now, Ukrainian producers are offering potatoes at a price of 6–12 UAH per kilogram, which is on average 14% cheaper than at the end of last week.

Experts attribute the price drop primarily to seasonal factors. The volume of potatoes on the Ukrainian market is increasing almost daily due to active harvesting.

At the same time, demand for potatoes remains below average, which is putting additional downward pressure on prices.

“The main reason for the decline in potato prices is the so-called seasonal factor, when the supply of this product on the market increases almost daily. At the same time, demand in this segment is below average, which also puts pressure on potato prices,” the experts noted.

According to EastFruit analysts, current potato prices in Ukraine are, on average, 37% lower than during the same period last year.

Market participants do not currently expect potato prices to rise in the near future. According to their estimates, due to significant production volumes, supply will remain high, which will continue to hold back price growth.

This was reported by EastFruit.

As a reminder, a shortage of new-crop cabbage emerged on the Ukrainian market this week, causing wholesale prices for the vegetable to rise significantly.
