Prices for cucumbers, potatoes, and plums have risen in Ukraine: current prices

Prices for fruits and vegetables in Ukraine continue to fluctuate depending on seasonal supply. Over the past week, the cost of cucumbers, potatoes, carrots, and a number of fruits has risen, while onions, bell peppers, and garlic have become cheaper.

What’s Happening with Vegetable Prices

The most notable increase this week was in the price of cucumbers—from 30–55 to 40–60 hryvnias per kilogram. Potatoes rose in price from 11–13 to 12–14 hryvnias, and carrots from 10–15 to 12–15 hryvnias per kilogram.

The following also became more expensive:

  • zucchini—from 30–35 to 30–40 hryvnias per kilogram;

  • eggplants—from 40–50 to 40–60 hryvnias per kilogram.

At the same time, the price of onions continues to fall—from 12–16 to 11–15 hryvnias per kg. The price of sweet peppers has dropped from 30–60 to 30–55 hryvnias, and garlic from 60–170 to 60–150 hryvnias per kg.

Prices for white cabbage, beets, tomatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, napa cabbage, and hot peppers remained unchanged over the week.

Plums doubled in price

The biggest change in the fruit segment was seen with plums. Over the week, their price rose from 20–40 to 40–80 hryvnias per kg.

Prices also rose for:

  • nectarines—from 80–110 to 100–120 hryvnias per kilogram;

  • melons—from 35–50 to 40–50 hryvnias;

  • watermelon—from 10–12 to 10–15 hryvnias;

  • grapes—from 50–100 to 60–120 hryvnias;

  • kiwis—from 160–180 to 180–200 hryvnias.

In contrast, pears became cheaper—from 25–60 to 20–50 hryvnias per kilogram.

Prices for apples, blueberries, raspberries, peaches, oranges, lemons, bananas, and pomegranates remained at their previous levels.

What Affects Prices

The market is currently showing varying trends depending on the specific product. Some vegetables are becoming more expensive due to changes in supply, while prices for onions and certain other items continue to fall.

In particular, the supply of onions at the market has increased again. They have become the most frequently sold item. The number of sellers offering table beets has doubled, and carrots are also being offered more frequently.

At the same time, the supply of tomatoes continues to decline. Sweet peppers are being sold less frequently, while sales of napa cabbage and pumpkin, on the other hand, have increased.

In the fruit and berry segment, apples account for the largest share of the supply. Ukrainian vendors are increasing their sales of pears, and the supply of persimmons from Uzbekistan has been growing for the third week in a row.

At the same time, sellers offered grapes and plums less frequently, and watermelon dropped out of the top sales. Tomatoes and “borscht mix” vegetables, as well as apples, plums, and melons, were in the highest demand among buyers.

This is reported with reference to data from EastFruit.

A gradual increase in prices for imported medications is expected in Ukraine due to changes in the dollar exchange rate, rising fuel costs, and higher delivery expenses. This was announced by Oleksandr Komarida, chairman of the board of the European Pharmaceutical Association.
